PreviewCast #041: Project Boring

Following our exciting, invigorating, amazing coverage of WordCamp on episode #040, Douglas summons an excellent panel of PreviewCasters and guests to talk about some of the latest news. And then, most of them have to bail out at the last minute. Still, Douglas is joined by guest Chris Thomson, The Mac Expert at TenMinuteLessons.com, and a frequent TalkShoe participant, known as Chris24.ca. (And no, this episode is NOT boring, the name of this episode is derived from a different context.)

Detailed photographs of a new keyboard for a rumored new iMac have surfaced. The keyboard looks cool, and has some hidden new features, but is it too thin to be practical? Apple has also been granted a new patent for it’s once-touted “Home on iPod” feature, which actually makes a compelling argument for having one. But things look bleak in the iPhone world, as AT&T messes up the internet listings on the bill, Apple and AT&T have a discrepancy in first-weekend iPhone sales (which even then are lower than expected), and the first idiotic iPhone class-action lawsuit has been filed. Douglas actually believed a joke story that Apple would charge a $5 entrance fee to Apple Stores. In other news, a major San Francisco power outage knocked down a number of Web 2.0 Sites and Google/YouTube are developing a new anti-piracy tool. Chris then shares some inside info about his new project called either Project Creative or iLife Portal. Douglas reviews the Linkinus IRC client, and the episode is brought to you by the Microsoft Surface Parody.

All this and plenty more in this NOT-boring episode of PreviewCast!

Suggest Topic Ideas: Bookmark Them!

We can always use more topics to talk about (or pretend to talk about, as the case might be) on our show, and so if you have any suggested topics that Douglas doesn’t know about, now you can send them to us! What to do: Find the article/story/etc. that has the topic, and bookmark it on del.icio.us with the tag “pcastideas”, and Douglas will try to look for articles bookmarked with that tag when he prepares topic lists for the show. If you do bookmark a topic, thanks for helping to contribute to PreviewCast!

PreviewCast #040: Let’s See Them Rub Two Blogs Together!

Reporting live (except for the podcast time-shift tape delay) from the floors of the Swedish American Hall in San Francisco, where WordCamp 2007 is taking place, Douglas interviews some of the more elite attendees at the conference, where they talk about everything from blogging to lolcats to car accidents. Here from some of the biggest names in the Automattic, WordPress, and blogging communities (short of Matt himself, who was covered in #038) in this special campers episode of PreviewCast!

Thanks to Lorelle VanFossen, Charles Stricklin, Anthony Cole, Andy Skelton, Dr. David Klein, Patrick Havens, Michael Adams, and Eric N. for agreeing to appear on this episode!

What? Another Live PreviewCast?

Yep, that’s right. You may remember that last year I did video coverage of the 2006 WordCamp. Well, this weekend is WordCamp 2007, and I’m going to be there again, but I won’t be doing the same thing I did last year. (Mostly because I don’t have a camera anymore.)

This year, on Saturday afternoon, I’ll be doing a live recording of PreviewCast in the side room set aside for the “BarCamp-style” meetups. Anyone who is at WordCamp and wants to join in is welcome to do so, although the recording may be a bit low-tech (after all, this show has no budget)! Presuming that there will be a WordCamp wiki like there was last year, I’ll be posting info on there about when I’ll be starting the recording.

Look forward to seeing you all again at WordCamp!
