PreviewCast #017: A Disastrous Open-Mic Day

It’s the ultimate PreviewCast dream, or the ultimate PreviewCast nightmare: an open-mic free-for-all on the podcast that has absolutely nothing to do with absolutely nothing. Things get strange, whacky, weird, and definitely random as we close out the year 2006, PreviewCast style.

In this episode, which got a little out of hand, Larry, Douglas, Skoker, and Robert just sit back, talk about the holiday (spoiler: we all celebrate Christmas), look back on the past year and on the new year, and have fun. At least, this was Douglas’ plan for the episode, however the others start to goof off a bit (especially towards Douglas). However, the goal of the most random episode of the year is definitely achieved. You’ve just got to listen to believe it–show notes would not do it justice!

Please note that this episode is marked explicit to cover our backs. Please note that no one on this episode truly means any offense towards prejudices spoken on this episode, and if they do, none of the other hosts are responsible! (Hey, the FBI has been busy recently.)

Hold on to your socks (and Mitchell’s pants) as you listen to this wild episode of PreviewCast!

Hosts: Laurence Anderson, Douglas Bell, Matthew Skok, Robert Preston, and Rachel Preston

Music: Way - Tea Leaves
Music: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen - Russ Freeman

Update on our PreviewCast Winter Break

Well, I’m sorry to say that our Boxing Day episode fell apart. We’ve had that happen sometimes during our past episodes, which usually means we need to do some production cleanup. Larry and I discussed the issue among ourselves today and took a look at what went wrong and how to fix it to prevent such slippage.

So, anyway, we’ve rescheduled the recording of the episode (#017) to this Friday afternoon, which will hopefully be released that evening, or at the latest, Saturday morning.

And, of course, we have our year in review episode (#018), which will be released on the afternoon/evening of New Year’s Eve, the 31st.

As for next week, our week off, we’re going to take some time to look back at our roots. We will be releasing as episodes #019 and #020 our two favorite episodes from the year 2005 (the first and third episodes we recorded that year). Although the 2005 episodes are not currently part of our episode archives (due to embarassment), I have personally saved a few episodes from that year, and will be releasing our two favorites during the first week of the new year (on Wednesday the 3rd and Saturday the 6th). They are actually pretty good episodes and it’s interesting to look back at the beginnings of our little podcast that could, and compare the striking similarities to what we continue to do today.

Then, on January 7th, we return to our normal recording schedule recording episode #021 (to be released the next day).

So, that’s the latest update on our state of affairs. We hope you look forward to our upcoming holiday lineup.
Also, today was Larry’s 17th birthday! Happy happy birthday, Larry!

PreviewCast #016SE: Happy Holidays!

Hey PreviewCast listeners! I kinda went behind Doug’s back and just recorded some holiday wishes for you. Enjoy, and happy holidays!

Website Downtime Tonight

Just a note that the PreviewCast.com website will be going down temporarily tonight at 9 PM Eastern time (6 PM for my fellow Westerners) for some updates. What’s coming:
–Updating the PodPress plugin (which handles all our podcasting feed stuff) to the latest 7.0 release.
–Brand new website theme! We’re going to be switching over to the excellent K2 theme for WordPress, which Larry and I both love (and it has lots of AJAX goodies!).
–The premiere of our BRAND NEW album artwork, done by our good friend macattacks10 (who doesn’t have a website, unfortunately).
–Maybe a few other surprises, depending on my mood…

The downtime will be approximately 1-2 hours, assuming no technical difficulties are encountered (Ha!).

As for PreviewCast #017? Robert has been kinda sick this past week, but we’re hoping that we can go down and record it today. After editing and all that heck, I’m hoping I can get the episode out tomorrow, or Sunday at the latest.
–Douglas Bell

UPDATE 12/23: It took a little longer than anticipated, but our update is now done! There’s still a few more extra features that will be quietly rolled out over the next few days, but the meat of the update is now complete.
As for PreviewCast #017, the video episode never turned out, so we’re just going to skip it and have #017 be our Boxing Day episode (it might go a little long).
So that just about wraps it up. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy Kwanza, or whatever holiday your celebrating/finishing this weekend, and we’ll see you midweek with our last episode of 2006! (I’m going to find a hankie.)
