PreviewCast

We’re haunting things up in this episode of PreviewCast! We welcome the youngest PreviewCaster to this episode…Douglas’ brother, Scott Bell, who is just as weird as Douglas is (if not more so)! We subsequentally run into a number of silly and scary surprises around every corner.

We celebrate, commemorate, and question the iPod’s 5th Anniversary, and also examine the brand new MacBook Pros, built with Core 2 Duo goodness. Also, Douglas finally decides that he doesn’t want a MacBook, despite the fact that Apple released a firmware update to supposedly fix the random shutdowns. We fry up some Chicken of the VNC and look at how again we were indirect prophets. Scott also does a book review of The End, and tells us why the end of the end of The End is better than the end of the beginning of The End (I’ll just spill the beans: their parents are stupid!). And the .Mac group unveils their new .Mac Webmail, but Douglas isn’t impressed. Microsoft gets off their bottoms and finally updates Internet Explorer with “new, never-before seen” features. But the Mozilla Foundation finalizes Firefox 2 a few days later, and Douglas eagerly reviews it. He also shares two excellent extensions which he’s discovered.

Is an episode of PreviewCast as random as usual when you have five people on the episode? Of course not…it’s much worse! Larry makes his triumphant return, and that means that Douglas is as good as dead. Furthermore, although Douglas tries to celebrate his 15th birthday, Mitchell takes it a bit too far.

Robert’s MacBook is ill again, this time it’s a squeaking lid and attention deficit disorder (aka random shutdown), and worse than that, it’s whining about it! Leo Laporte announced that he’s now trying to trademark “netcast”–we decide if that’s a good idea or not and offer some, ahem, interesting alternatives. Google acquires YouTube for $1.6 billion, we decide if this is a good thing and predict what the consequences could be. A few features in Safari 3 (Mac OS X Leopard) have been leaked, but Douglas is excited because Firefox 2 RC-2 was released. Core 2 MacBook Pros are ramping up, according to the rumors, but no one is happy about that because they all just purchased MacBooks! Douglas also reviews his new pair of wireless headphones, and also takes a look at his Pzizz nap.
